Chief Executive, Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust - Te Whare Nuku Noa


Our vision is to reduce and avoid homelessness in the Wellington region by offering wāhine the support they need to change their situation.

At a high level, the CEO is to manage the house, lead the practice, manage audits (and meet audit requirements), and external engagement

Purpose of the role

The CEO's purpose is to provide strategic and operational leadership to Te Whare and strategically advocate for homelessness by building external relationships that support its sustainability and vision.

Responsibilities 

Strategic Leadership

  • Shaping the long-term direction and sustainability of Te Whare

  • Advocating for the rights of homeless wāhine and the wrap-around services that provide the best opportunity for long-term safety.

  • Initiative and event planning that supports the sustainability of Te Whare.

  • Anticipating and assessing our strategic context and ensuring it remains relevant. 

  • Enable and support the management of the frontline staff and the nature of work

  • Kaitiaki of the sustainability of our services

Operational Leadership

  • Ensure the structure is fit to support the vision of Te Whare

  • Ensure the policies and procedures enable the vision and mitigate risks

  • Effective financial management including budgeting and reporting on financial performance.

  • Ensures a fit-for-purpose business or operational plan that pragmatically delivers on the vision

  • People management and leadership

  • Continuous Improvement to ensure the operating model supports the long-term vision 

Accessing funding

  • Work with funders to ensure Te Whare has the best opportunity possible to access funding streams, via charitable donation, philanthropic funding, and central or local government funds.

  • Develop and maintain a long-term strategic plan to access income

  • Playing a key role in fundraising and securing funding from various sources. 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and maintain key strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders that align with the vision and sustainability of Te Whare

  • Work creatively and productively with stakeholders

Risk and Quality Management, Crisis and Incident Response

  • Creating an environment for effective and best practice professional service

  • Prepare for and respond effectively to external and internal audits

  • Creating a safe and structured approach to de-escalate incidents

  • Identifying and managing risks

  • Ensuring professional supervision is available to all staff

Specification

  • Experience in social agencies and for-purpose organisations

  • Experience in funding proposals and audits

  • Staff engagement, leadership, and management

  • Contextualised understanding of the role of a charity

  • Excellent Te Tiriti Partner or Ally to Māori and Pasifika wāhine communities of colour

  • Direct or indirect lived experience
